       An unearthed tweet shows David Lammy mocking Donald Trump as a “snowflake” as he said previous US presidents “have been assassinated”.

       There are now calls for the Labour Foreign Secretary to stand down after the 2019 tweet was re-shared following the shocking assassination attempt on former US President Trump - and now Republican candidate - which has sent shockwaves around the world.

       The tweet on social media platform X was in response to Mr Trump saying there had been no president who had been “treated so badly” as he had.

       In response Mr Lammy said: “4 US Presidents have been assassinated snowflake.”

       Mr Trump narrowly escaped death on Saturday after a shooter opened fire at a Republican rally in Pennsylvania. He suffered a bloody injury to his ear as bullets peppered the stage as he spoke to supporters.

       The former US President was then photographed defiantly clenching his fist into the air after the terrifying ordeal.

       Mr Lammy, who was chosen by new Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to be Foreign Secretary, also responded to the shocking event on X.

       The MP for Tottenham said: “The UK government condemns all forms of political violence in the strongest terms.

       “As we monitor the shocking developments in Pennsylvania, our thoughts and best wishes are with President Trump - along with every victim and their families.”

       Many have reacted to Mr Lammy’s historic tweet, which is once again gaining traction on the platform.

       Turning Point UK said: “Lammy is an international disgrace, he should resign. Not only is he beyond thick, he is also a national embarrassment. Starmer needs to sack him.”

       Meanwhile, a determined Donald Trump has broken his silence and issued a defiant five-word statement just hours after the lone gunman almost claimed his life.

       Speaking to the New York Post, Mr Trump said: "I'm supposed to be dead."

       He said that medics called his escape from death miraculous, adding: "The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this. He called it a miracle.”
