King Charles will arrive in Parliament at 11:20 am tomorrow in full regalia as Keir Starmer’s Government begins the process of turning its winning manifesto into law.
The King’s Speech is one of Parliament’s big set-piece moments, and takes place most years.
As well as an opportunity to show off the best of British pageantry and tradition, it’s a key moment in the country’s constitution for the Government to introduce new laws to parliament, which will then be debated over the course of six to nine months before passing into law.
Labour’s manifesto contained dozens of policies, and it’s thought that tomorrow will see the introduction of around 20 to 25 new Bills to the Commons.
Here’s everything we think might be included:

Workers’ rights - To be headed by Angela Rayner, this will include promises around bans on zero-hours contracts, a ban on ‘fire and rehire’ and giving workers the same rights as colleagues from day one. It could also reform work capability assessments. Martyn’s law - A Bill originally promised by Rishi Sunak but failed to clear before the election. This will bring in legal requirements for venues to put in place terrorism preparation plans. Named after Manchester Bombing victim Martyn Hett. Take Back Control Bill - This will introduce a swathe of new devolution to regions, councils and mayors who will get more powers over skills, energy, planning and transport. Prisons - Following on from last week’s speech by Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood, this would bring in changes to the early release and have new measures to control the prison population Renters reforms - The Government will move to strengthen Michael Gove’s renters reforms which failed to pass before the election. It will introduce a ban on no-fault evictions and possibly abolish leaseholder status for flats as well as houses.

Crime and policing - This will be a wide-ranging bill including a crackdown on knives and machetes, new child exploitation protections to reduce gang violence, compulsory assessments by youth offending teams for anyone carrying a knife, a crackdown on antisocial behaviour, tightening up shoplifting rules, and new laws to end drink spiking. Smoking - Passing Rishi Sunak’s smoking ban, which the previous government also failed to pass before the election. This will raise the age at which people can buy cigarettes by one year every year, meaning a 14-year-old today will never be able to buy a cigarette. Lords Reform - This will be the biggest shake-up to the Lords since Tony Blair, with the final abolition of all hereditary peers and introducing a mandatory retirement age of 80. Tax avoidance - A further crackdown on Non-Doms, which Labour claimed the Government’s previous changes had included loopholes that could be exploited. It will also give additional powers and funding to HMRC. Cyber security - Sir Keir is expected to introduce new rules to govern the development of artificial intelligence, enhancing legal safeguards. It will also include new laws to protect the NHS and other public services from cyber attacks. Football governance - This will introduce an independent regulator of football in England, which Labour says will put fans at the heart of the game

Border security and immigration - The Government will introduce a new Border Security Command, with people smugglers facing new terrorism-style crackdowns and new measures to work closer with international partners. Spending rules - The Government will make hay out of Liz Truss’s mini-budget by strengthening the Office for Budget Responsibility allowing it to publish independent forecasts of any major fiscal event Votes at 16 - The Government will lower the voting age to 16, something the Tories have claimed will fix future elections VAT on private schools fees - Labour will end the VAT relief on private school fees, raising up to £1.5 billion and being used to pay for 6,500 teachers, improved state school training and 3,300 nursery places GB Energy - Creating Labour’s new energy investment body, paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas producers. While the body itself won’t produce any energy, Ed Miliband says it will help generate clean power, while cutting bills and boosting energy security Transport - Labour will renationalise the railways, and create a new body called Great British Railways. The Government will take over existing rail contracts when they expire.

He will arrive at around 11:20, with the royal procession seven minutes later before he is seated on the throne in the House of Lords at 11:30.
The day will be packed with tradition, including the traditional slamming of the Commons door in the face of Blackrod, and the procession through parliament by the Speaker and MPs.
Sir Keir, his government and others including Rishi Sunak will congregate in the Lords to hear the speech, which is in fact written by the Government and not The King.
They will then return to the Commons for the King’s Speech debate, which may also be a prime opportunity for Tory leadership candidates to make their voices heard.

The debate itself traditionally begins with two light-hearted and humorous speeches by backbenchers who propose and second the speech.
It will then be followed by speeches from Sir Keir and Rishi Sunak, before backbenchers and other smaller party leaders get a turn.
The debate itself will go on for a number of days.
