The former Prime Minister was speaking about Donald Trump when Led By Donkeys unveiled a secretly installed banner from the ceiling, depicting a picture of a lettuce and the words “I crashed the economy”.
Nearly 24 hours on from the incident, Ms Truss said the stunt was "not funny".
She said: "What happened last night was not funny. Far-left activists disrupted the event, which then had to be stopped for security reasons. This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech. I won't stand for it. Would we see the same reaction if the activists were far-right?"

????????????Actually, it was very funny, the banner was entirely accurate, and you suppressed your own free speech by stomping off in a sulky strop. https://t.co/wJJWYJzbkI

But the journalist and TV host hit back with a fiery response, saying Ms Truss was hampering her own free speech by her reaction.
Posting on X, he said: "Actually, it was very funny, the banner was entirely accurate, and you suppressed your own free speech by stomping off in a sulky strop."
The lettuce on the banner refers to the Daily Star's livestream of a head of lettuce next to a picture of the then-PM Ms Truss.
The livestream came in response to an article in The Economist which posited that Ms Truss' tenure in Number 10 will last as long as a head of lettuce.

The slogan appearing under the lettuce, which read "I crashed the economy", is in reference to Mr Truss and then-Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's "mini-budget".
The disastrous plans saw mortgage rates spiral and forced Mr Kwarteng to privately reassure US bankers, politicians, and diplomats at the US embassy in London, insisting that the UK "was committed to fiscal responsibility."
