Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Oct 16 there were “clear indications” that India had violated Canadian sovereignty, as the countries row over the killing of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil last year that Ottawa blamed on New Delhi.

Trudeau’s latest charge came two days after India and Canada expelled each other’s ambassadors as Ottawa alleged that Indian involvement in a campaign against Sikh separatists went beyond what was previously known.

Tensions have soared since Canada accused the Indian government of involvement in last year’s killing outside a Sikh temple of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an advocate for an independent Sikh state who had immigrated to Canada and become a citizen.

Ukraine called on its allies on Oct 16 to impose new sanctions on Pyongyang after it said North Korea had become a de facto participant in the war in Ukraine on Russia’s side.

President Volodymyr Zelensky told parliament in a speech to outline his victory plan that his spy services had confirmed North Korea’s supply of both weapons and people to Russia, echoing similar comments in recent days.

“These are workers for Russian factories to replace Russians killed in the war. And personnel for the Russian army. In fact, this is the participation of a second state in the war against Ukraine on the side of Russia,” Zelenskiy said.

Diplomatic efforts to halt the fighting have stalled and attention is now focused on an expected Israeli strike on Iran after Tehran launched its second missile attack on Israel more than two weeks ago.

Donald Trump sought to present himself as the “father of IVF” on Oct 16, as he told an all-female audience at an election campaign that he supported for a fertility treatment that Democrats say he has put under threat.

The Republican candidate did not explain what he meant, but his remarks were the latest in a series of conflicting stances he has taken on reproductive rights, a key weakness in his push for the White House.

“I want to talk about IVF. I’m the father of IVF, so I want to hear this question,” Trump told Fox News in the closely-watched swing state of Georgia as the topic turned to in vitro fertilisation.

Williams, 43, posted the news to social media on Oct 16, saying she had a benign branchial cyst “the size of a small grapefruit” removed.

She ended the note accompanying a photo of her in a hospital bed with the message “all is OK.”
