Budget 2024: Rachel Reeves outlines approach to pensions
Kirstie Allsopp has slammed Rachel Reeves as she delivered Labour's first Autumn Budget Statement since 2010. The UK's first female chancellor announced a number of suprise moves, including a freeze on fuel duty next year.
The UK budget unveiled a slew of new tax hikes on capital gains, inheritance, pensions, and employer contributions, plus the abolition of the long-standing non-dom status.

However, Channel 4 presenter Kirstie Allsopp waded in on the new announcements and launched a scathing rant against Rachel Reeves, describing her decisions as "appalling."
She wrote on X: "Rachel Reeves had f***ed all farmers, she has destroyed their ability to pass farms on to their children, and broken the future of all our great estates, it is an appalling decisions which shows the government has ZERO understanding of the what matters to rural voters."
In a seperate post, she typed: "When Osborne added 3% SDLT to so called “second homes” he had no concept of how many ordinary people had a share in another property through divorce, helping out children or elderly parents etc. It’s clear that Reeves knows even less, upping it to 5% is moronic."

Today the government announced a freeze on inheritance tax thresholds extended beyond 2028 to 2030.
They also set a freeze on income tax and National Insurance thresholds to end in 2028, preventing people from being dragged into higher tax bands as their wages rise.
Stamp duty land surcharge for second-homes will increase by 2% to 5% from tomorrow and National Insurance contributions by employers will rise from 13.8% to 15%, with some exemptions for small businesses.

Overall, Reeves said that the 2024 budget will raise taxes by ￡40 billion. Minimum wages will also rise in April and she also announced a ￡22.6bn increase in the "day-to-day health budget".
