Many youngsters up and down the country are to see their Christmas break extended as many schools are to close today after a weekend of heavy snow.

       Temperatures in the UK plunged to a brutal -11C over the weekend with the snowstorm inflicting chaos on the roads and rail network - some flights were even cancelled in key airports including Manchester and Bristol.

       Millions of commuters will face more snow, ice and rain as seven weather warnings remain in place covering most of the UK.

       Travel delays, stranded vehicles and power cuts are all likely under the warning - while rural communities could be cut off with up to an additional 15cm of snow falling during the period, the Met Office said.

       As a result many schools will not open their doors today, in Bradford a whopping 167 schools are closed today.
