New footage shows Ukrainian forces in a US-made armoured vehicle obliterating a Russian position.

       Aerial footage captured the daring assault carried out by the 37th Marine Brigade, which culminated in a huge explosion.

       The troops operated out of an Oshkosh M-ATV armoured vehicle and suppressed enemy fire using a machine gun to force the Russians to retreat.

       The brigade said the marines then left an “explosive ‘gift’ for our uninvited Russian guests”.

       Footage shows the explosive detonating, with plumes of smoke filling the sky.

       According to the Ukrainians, the explosive “completely destroyed” an enemy shelter and all Russian personnel inside were killed.

       The attack comes as Ukraine claims to have destroyed more than 10,000 Russian tanks since Vladimir Putin’s forces began a full-scale invasion almost three years ago.

       The UK reported last year that Russia relied on “outdated and poorly maintained Soviet-era equipment” but estimated that only around 3,600 main battle tanks had been removed.

       Ukraine’s defence ministry also claims more than 850,000 Russian troops have now been killed or wounded, with 700 planes and helicopters also obliterated.

       Ukraine claims December and January were the two bloodiest months of the entire conflict for Russia, with almost 100,000 losses suffered.

       These figures are all unverified.

       Sources say Britain will lead backroom talks to discuss arming Ukraine once hostilities with Russia are ended.

       It centres on concerns that Putin will use any ceasefire that Donald Trump may broker in the coming months to reconstitute his battered armed forces before attempting a third invasion of Ukraine.

       According to the New York Post, the US President has spoken to Putin over the phone to try to negotiate an end to the war.

       He reportedly said he believes Putin “does care” about the number of deaths.

       The UK is continuing to support Ukraine and its armed forces, with two new secret drones undergoing final testing ahead of being delivered to the war-torn nation’s armed forces.
