Monterrey, often regarded as Mexico’s industrial powerhouse and the country's third-largest city, is quickly establishing itself as the epicentre of skyscraper development in Latin America.

With a skyline that is expanding at an unprecedented rate, the city currently has 11 skyscrapers under construction, including what will be the tallest building in Latin America and one of the world's tallest upon its completion in 2026.

As an economic hub, Monterrey plays a crucial role in Mexico’s financial and industrial sectors, currently housing headquarters for major national and international corporations.

The city's rapid urbanisation and economic strength have driven a surge in vertical architecture, transforming it into a modern metropolis comparable to the world's major financial centres.

The city is embarking on a series of impressive infrastructure projects that Latin American construction publication DF SUD said will transform Monterrey into the "Dubai of Mexico".

First up is the Rise Tower, a building expected to reach an astonishing height of 475 metres (1,558 feet) across 99 floors, Rise Tower will become the tallest building in Latin America, the second tallest in the Western Hemisphere, and the 13th tallest skyscraper in the world upon its completion. The tower is designed to blend modern luxury with sustainability, featuring over 4,300 m2 of green spaces and 8,000 m2 of amenities.

Once completed, the tower will stand taller than New York’s Central Park Tower and China’s Kingkey Tower, boasting an array of world-class facilities, including:

Designed by the renowned Pozas Arquitectos, the project emphasises sustainability and innovation in architectural design. Investors expect the $5 billion (£3.9 billion) megastructure to be completed just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament in which Monterrey will serve as one of the host cities.

Meanwhile, the Sohl Tower, also known as Constitución 999, is a major part of a broader downtown urban regeneration project that includes six towers of varying heights. Standing 268 metres (879 feet) tall with 66 floors, it is set to become one of Mexico’s most significant mixed-use developments. Estimated to be completed at some point this year, it will have 24 levels of residential apartments, 27 levels of office spaces, and an almost endless list of amenities, including a swanky sky bar.

Not far away, LOLA Tower, a 184-metre (604-foot) office and retail skyscraper, is rising along Morones Prieto Avenue, one of Monterrey’s busiest commercial corridors. Designed to optimise sound insulation, the tower aims to provide a premium work environment by significantly reducing traffic noise. It will mostly cater to businesses, and though it was meant to be completed in 2024, delays have pushed this date back.

With a design inspired by Monterrey’s rugged mountainous landscape, Libertad HO seeks to merge nature with avant-garde urban living. Once completed, the 182-metre (597-foot) skyscraper will be a landmark addition to the city’s skyline–though no completion date has been announced. Ikon Tower, meanwhile, standing at 175 metres will have 42 floors and serve as a multi-purpose space, integrating class A+ offices, commercial areas, green spaces, and a boutique hotel operated by Hyatt.

There are other major skyscrapers under construction in Monterrey. They include:

As Mexico’s second-largest economy, Monterrey continues in its role as a thriving business hub with a rapidly evolving urban landscape. Already home to some of Latin America’s most modern infrastructure, the city’s skyscraper boom is positioning it as one of the most dynamic metropolitan centres in the world.
