A massive skyscraper in Bangkok was once meant to be a luxury complex, but instead, it has become one of the most famous abandoned buildings in the world.

       The Sathorn Unique Tower, known as the "Ghost Tower," stands 607 feet tall and was supposed to house 600 luxury apartments.

       However, construction stopped in the late 1990s, and it remains unfinished.

       The project collapsed during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, which left Bangkok littered with abandoned high-rise developments.

       While many have since been completed, Sathorn Unique remains frozen in time, making it one of the world's most famous "ghost towers".

       Although it is not the tallest abandoned skyscraper - a title held by China’s Goldin Finance 117, which remains unfinished at nearly 2,000 feet - Sathorn Unique is widely considered the world's tallest ghost tower due to its eerie look and incomplete state.

       Designed by architect Rangsan Torsuwan, the building was supposed to be a sister project to the State Tower, another Bangkok skyscraper that was eventually finished.

       But Torsuwan became involved in a controversial legal case in the 1990s, which made securing financial support difficult.

       When the economic crisis hit, funding dried up, and construction came to a halt at around 80% completion.

       Located near the Chao Phraya River, the building dominates Bangkok’s skyline, with its exposed concrete structure and crumbling balconies giving it an eerie look.

       Some locals believe the building is haunted, with stories circulating that the land was once a graveyard or that its shadow falling on a nearby temple made it cursed.

       Despite being off-limits, the tower has attracted urban explorers and thrill-seekers, some of whom have bribed security guards for access.

       In 2014, it gained media attention after a Swedish tourist was found dead on the 43rd floor. The case was treated as a suicide but many locals had a fair share of doubts.

       In 2015, Pansit Torsuwan, the son of the original developer, filed trespassing charges against five people who had posted videos of themselves freerunning on the building.

       He warned that the structure was dangerous, with unstable floors and exposed wiring, and said hundreds of people had been sneaking in on weekends.

       Despite its abandoned state, the Ghost Tower has been used for exhibitions and even as a film location.

       In 2017, it featured in the Thai horror film "The Promise" and was also used for a seminar marking the 20th anniversary of financial crisis.

       For now, Sathorn Unique's future remains unclear. While other unfinished Bangkok skyscrapers have been renovated or demolished, the 607-foot Ghost Tower still stands.
