A major international survey revealed huge differences in opinion about the incoming US president.

More than half of UK residents, 54%, think having Mr Trump as president for the second time will be bad for our country. Just 15% say it will be good.
But it is a completely different picture in many other parts of the world, with Mr Trump most popular in countries that are not normally considered part of the West.
The YouGov/Datapraxis/Gallup global poll, commissioned by the European Council on Foreign Relations, found that 84% of people in India and 61% of people in Saudi Arabia believed Mr Trump would be good for their country.

It found 49% of people in Russia think Mr Trump will be good for their country. Mr Trump has vowed to end the ongoing war caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
And perhaps surprisingly, 46% of Chinese people surveyed think the president’s return to power will be good for China.
Mr Trump has taken a hardline approach to China and threatened huge trade tariffs on imports from the country. However, he spoke by phone to Chinese president Xi Jinping last week and reportedly plans to visit the country, according to US media.
The survey found America’s traditional allies are actually the most pessimistic about Mr Trump. That includes the UK and Europe as a whole, with 22% of people in EU nations believing Mr Trump’s return is good for their country.
Timothy Garton Ash, Ivan Krastev and Mark Leonard, experts at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said: “Europeans are almost alone in mourning Trump’s election.
“In countries from India and China to Turkey and Brazil, more respondents think Trump will be good for America, for their country and for peace in the world than think he will be bad for them.
"Tellingly, the one exception outside Europe is South Korea - a democracy which, like most European countries, is dependent for its security on the US. In short, Trump’s return is lamented by America’s long-time allies but almost nobody else.”
Just 19% in the UK think Mr Trump’s return is a good thing for peace in the world, with 58% saying it is bad.
And only 24% of Brits think Mr Trump as president is good for the US, with 53% saying it is bad for Americans.
Mr Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on imports to the US, including those from the UK. Experts at Boston Consulting Group warned this could cost the UK ￡2.5billion every year.

However, Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform who is close to Mr Trump, insisted this is a negotiating position and Mr Trump is an “anglophile” with a soft spot for Britain.
Mr Farage said: “Of course, I’m concerned that if there was a big downturn in global trade, that might have a negative effect in the short term.
“But you’ve got to understand, Trump is using tariff threats as a means of negotiation.
“This guy does business differently to anybody else we’ve seen in global politics before.”

He told BBC Radio 4: “We’ve got every opportunity for a fantastic relationship with an incoming administration who are anglophile to their fingertips.
