Nigel Farage's Reform UK faces three major tests (Image: Getty)
Nigel Farage faces three major tests in the coming months, with a warning Reform UK needs to deliver for Brits in the parts of the country where it has gained power to secure further electoral success. Insiders from the insurgent outfit say Reform UK aims to build on the momentum underway since last year's general election.
This includes two major tests posed by local elections in England and regional elections in Scotland and Wales on May 7 next year. A third test is for Reform to prove itself to voters where it is in control of 10 councils.

Richard Tice, Reform's Deputy Leader, told GB News delivery is "critical", the outfit will "deliver in many ways" but will also "make mistakes".
A friend of Mr Farage's told the channel: "We don't have to be brilliant, we just have to be solid and dependable."

They are quoted as saying no one expect Reform to be perfect, but they do want it to work hard and speak out on issues which annoy people, including Net Zero, "two-tier" justice, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Scarlett Maguire, founder of Merlin Strategies, cautioned that Reform UK doesn't want to end up in Labour's position, adding: "It’s interesting that Reform’s slogan now is similar to Labour’s, but if you’re talking about how the country is broken then you need to make sure that if, and it’s a big if, you get into power that you’re now delivering."
Reform's slogan is "Britain is broken, Britain needs Reform" while Labour's is "Plan for Change".
Voting intention polling by Ipsos puts Reform ahead among voters asked who they intend to vote for at the next general election.
Reform has 34%, Labour 25%, the Conservatives 15%, Lib Dems 11% and Greens 9%, according to the Ipsos poll of 1,180 adults carried out between May 30 and June 4.

Despite its electoral successes, Mr Farage's outfit has seen setbacks since a turquoise tidal wave swept England in May, when Reform picked up 10 councils and saw scores of councillors elected to town halls.
Reform's Warwickshire Council leader, Rob Howard, resigned in June, leaving George Finch, 18, in charge of a local authority with a budget of £414million.
It also lost recent electoral tests in Newark West and Durham's Benfieldsire to the Tories and Lib Dems respectively.
Of the five MPs elected under the Reform banner in July 2024, two now sit as independents.
Rupert Lowe, MP for Great Yarmouth, was suspended earlier this year after allegations were made about his conduct, which he has denied.

James McMurdock resigned Reform's whip amid questions related to Covid loans. The MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock has said his business dealings are above board.
Reform's new chairman, David Bull, told GB News the party faces an uphill struggle ahead of the next local elections, including making sure its vetting process is up to the task of selecting candidates who are capable.
The outfit will also look to make further inroads in Scotland, where it lost June's Hamilton by-election. A challenging situation for Labour in Wales also offers Reform opportunities to plant its flags on the country's electoral map.
