In a recent image Israeli hostage Evyatar David appears to dig his own grave (Image: -)
Distressing as it undoubtedly is, I’d ask you to study this picture. It shows one of the Israeli hostages still alive, Evyatar David, appearing to be forced to dig his own grave. While he struggles to speak, he is heard to say: “I haven’t eaten for days … I barely got any drinking water.”
It was released by Hamas, the same organisation whose senior member Ghazi Hamad has responded to the news Britain is within weeks of formally recognising Palestine by saying: “The initiative by several countries to recognise a Palestinian state is one of the fruits of October 7th.”

While imposing conditions on Israel to stop official UK recognition, Sir Keir Starmer requires Hamas to do precisely nothing. Little wonder then the terrorists see it as “one of the fruits.”
Sir Keir needs to look as closely to himself as he should at this picture.

Didn’t take long, did it? The politics of envy is alive and well and never far from the beating, jealous heart of the Labour Party.
Headlines suggesting wealth taxes in the Autumn budget appear on an almost daily basis, farmers are treated as if they’re multi-millionaires and the vicious and economically illiterate imposition of VAT fees for private education has led to more than 50 schools closing.
That was followed up last week by Labour windbag Neil, now Lord, Kinnock suggesting VAT should be charged on private healthcare. Labour would do well to remember what the public thought of him and his policies when he was trying to get them elected.

We are continually told we enjoy free speech in this country – but increasingly it seems fair to ask just how free that is, in reality.
A teacher with more than 20 years’ experience lost his job for expressing views about a two-tier justice system many feel operates in this country. Preston College deemed Simon Pearson brought them into disrepute after he cited the case of Lucy Connolly, the woman jailed for posting indefensible and vile views about asylum seekers.
But Pearson had spelt out the remarks were “obviously wrong” and had used the case to comment about judicial fairness.
Disturbingly, Pearson claims the NEU teachers’ union supported his dismissal.
Remember when unions used to try to protect their members?

As football kicks off its new season, I regret to say that a sport I’ve followed for more than half a century is losing its allure on a daily basis.
Morecambe FC on the verge of extinction with debts of £316,000 and other teams in higher divisions also face possible wipe out, the Premier League revels in its bloated excesses. One player could be bought for £73 million, another team has spent £130 million on just two players and the average salary in that league is around £300,000 per month.
The ’beautiful game’ has never looked so tarnished.

It should not even be a debate as to whether we are permitted to know the origin and immigration status of anyone charged with serious crime, and hand-wringing do-gooders claiming otherwise should realise ignorance in these cases is NOT bliss.
As Southport showed, it is highly dangerous.
