Nigel Farage praised “amazing” Donald Trump for his dynamic leadership as he admitted he does not talk to his friend much now.
The pair met in the Oval Office on Wednesday during a whistle-stop visit by the Reform leader to the US to give evidence about free speech in the UK.
Speaking to the Daily Expresso ahead of the trip, Mr Farage said the president is “amazing, dynamic, energetic".
Asked what he is really like, Mr Farage did an impression of the president’s voice and replied: “So, great.”
He added: "Look, he's enormous fun to be with. He's very high energy. Don't upset him, because I know what it's like if he’s not happy with you.
“Amazing, dynamic, energetic. You can agree with him. You can disagree with him.
“You certainly can't ignore him. And I've had enormous fun in and around Trump, his sons, his extended family. I like them very much.”
Asked if they speak often, he replied: “No, not that much now. In the in between years, yes, when he was camped down in Mar-a-Lago waiting for the next run.
“These days he's got a lot on his plate.”
Mr Farage posted an image of himself with Mr Trump standing behind the president’s famous Resolute desk.
At the hearing House Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill, Mr Farage likened Britain to North Korea over the UK’s approach to civil liberties.
He raised the arrest of Irish writer Graham Linehan for comments on social media about transgender people, and the jailing of former childminder and wife of a Conservative councillor Lucy Connolly for stirring up racial hatred against asylum seekers in the aftermath of the Southport murders last year.
