The plans suggest the average cost of using a petrol car could increase by more than £100 per year. Gas bills would also see an increase of as much as £170, according to The Times. The Prime Minister and the Chancellor are set to meet Kwasi Kwarteng, the Business Secretary, to talk about the plans. The programme could come into force as soon as 2022.
