Visitors to York will be able to see Henry III’s unique “ flushing ” lavatory for the first time in four centuries after a landmark restoration of Clifford’s Tower. The 800-year-old keep, perched on top of a Norman motte or mound, is the largest surviving element of York castle. Its interior burnt down in the 17th century and the tower has remained a ruin ever since.
